Its an old movie theater here in town..

Used to be called Wichita Theater.. I saw a LOT of classics there as a kid - like Planet of the Apes, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Herbie the Love Bug and on and on.. in the early 80's they removed the theater screen, built a stage, and turned it into a place for live acts - mostly musical.. More recently it has been used for plays - Wizard of Oz, Little Orphan Annie etc..

Around 1982, Michael Martin Murphy played there.. I went to the show and was sitting in the balcony.. He started talking about the amazing acoustics in the theater and said he wanted to try something.. so, he did a song - just him and his acoustic guitar (the band sat this one out) and sang without a mic and played without his guitar mic'd or anything..

I could hear everything CRYSTAL clear, in the balcony, of about a 1250 seat auditorium.. it was insane that the acoustics were that good in a packed theater that size..

In 1987, Damien the band I put together in the early 80's that had broken up in 1985, did a reunion show and I booked the Wichita Theater as the venue.. I REALLY wanted to play that place.. My bass player, Tim Stunson (who played for Blackfoot) had been in a horrific accident on the road and needed something to get back on track.. his soundman drove all the way in from Indiana to run our sound, which was AMAZING.. I LOVE that theater.. I grew up in it.. it is a Texas landmark, now..

Here's a pic from our '87 reunion show.. Tim and me up front - Tim on your left, JD (singer) behind us, Kenny (drummer) somewhere behind JD..
