We used to have a lot of participation here in the Pub. But lately crickets are taking over. Anyhow, I can't remember a discussion on this topic so I thought I'd start one.

My dad bought me my first car in the spring of 1969 when I was a senior in high school. I think it cost him about $100. It was a 1960 Plymouth Fury that I had to share with my brother. It was a butt-ugly, white boat of a car that had a ton of rust, including a rusted out back seat that was pretty much just a frame with exposed springs. It was embarrassing to drive which I found out years later that's exactly what my dad wanted. .

The first car I bought on my own was right after I started my freshman year of college in 1969. I'd been working all summer and saving my money. It was a 1965 red mustang with black bucket seats. It had never been wrecked and was in excellent shape. It was a sexy little car and perfect for a college student. I LOVED that car. It cost me $800. I had it about 4 months before I totaled it. A boy I'd been dating passed by me in his car with another girl sitting next to him and in my emotional shock and rage I ran my car into a telephone pole. Destroyed the pole AND the car.
