None of your examples mentioned the community extensions that my associations have been in......Have you yourself ever been in a car club, or does it come from people you knew, or what you have read about?.....You keep standing on the idea that the club revolves solely around the cat itself.....all your examples are simplified to that aspect....
I contend with 1st hand knowledge and first hand experience they go much deeper then that.....can't speak for all clubs, but IMO those you speak on are not what I consider a club that I would join.....The car/truck is the object, the club uses that interest by doing community events by way of bringing our interest in our vehicles to others and in that way take it many steps past just talking to others who may own similar cars/trucks.....generating monies for issues from a kid/person in need of finances for health reasons....maybe a family in need of whatever you can think of...To me that's a club....it does more than just speaking on your car/truck to others with similar cars/trucks.
