My Wife and I watched the episode "The Boy From The CCC". As we watched, I THOUGHT I had heard of the CCC. The episode was about a cynical young man from Hell's Kitchen, N.Y. who ran away from a CCC project. I looked it up and it instantly hit me. C.C.C. stands for the Civilian Conservation Corp. Established by President F.D.R. It was a program that ran from 1933-42, for poor young men to help establish Conservation projects such as State Parks. What struck home was just about an hour drive South of here is Gold Head State Park. It's a beautiful park with a Spring coming from a deep ravine that trickles into a lake. I used to take my boys there when the lake was higher. The concrete stairs into the ravine, the old lake Bath House (STILL in fantastic shape) and other structures such as cabins were all built by the CCC in the mid 1930s. As a kid, I simply loved to swim down there. But taking my boys, as a grown man, I found myself thinking about the History of what is down there.
