Several years ago at Heavenly Valley Barb and I were watching racers from age 10 to 18 course inspections-basically pre-runs. Suddenly we noticed no one was skiing. Then we saw a large black bear just sauntering across the middle of the run nibbling at some of the gates. So I mentioned to some of the parents from Heavenly and they said it happens 3 or 4 times a week. Same bear. Apparently he's got some sort of destination on the other side because later in the day-here he comes slowly walking across the course. This time in the middle of a race.
