I've been watching the Oscars every year since I was around 8 years old. It's just one of those shows I'd NEVER miss. When the incident happened, we weren't sure what was going on because NBC bleeped the sound for about a minute.
I think Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are odd human beings. They are not my favorite people. I felt Will's reaction was extreme and I can't believe he reacted that way on national television. It wasn't just the slap. Did you know Will yelled back at Chris "Keep my wife's name out of your @#$%& mouth?" Chris is a comedian. I don't think everything a comedian says is funny. But folks in Hollywood have to know by now that when in the presence of a comedian, they're fair game and just can't be too thin-skinned. There have been jabs thrown at those in the audience from the stage over the past 60 years. Some of them make you go "Ouch" or "I can't believe he said that" but NONE of them have been bad enough to literally jump up on stage and slap/punch the deliverer. I'm sure Chris Rock had no idea that Jada was sensitive about having alopecia, which is interesting since she's obviously NOT sensitive about telling the world about her open marriage and previous affairs while married to Will. Will says he's all about love and that's what he wants people to see in him. Well, that ain't the way to do it!
