Growing up we would climb the fences at a local elementary school and play "over the line" on concrete. It's baseball for two man teams. Depending on rather the hitter is left handed or right there would be one out fielder and a shortstop. The pitcher would be one of the two opposing players and would throw slow softballs to his teammate batter. Only one side of the field was "open". No running to first. Any ball the SS can get to is an out. If its over the SS and before the OF its a hit and you keep track of the number of imaginary players on the bases and scoring.
Then came fast pitch softball on regular diamonds with regular 9 on a team. There was no little league then -at least not where I lived. Then in middle school fast pitch regular baseball with a softball on school grounds.
Then High School regular hardball and subsequently American Legion-which was my last chance at the major leagues. Couldn't hit the curveball.
Baseball still my favorite sport. Maybe because it was the only sport I was actually good at.
