I can't begin to imagine what goes into coordinating their routines. They are so elaborate and detailed.
I remember the first time that I recognized the entertainment value of a good marching band. Some friends and I drove down to Minneapolis in the mid nineties to watch the Gophers play Michigan in the Metrodome. We had a late night on the Friday, and weren't at our most alert during the game. The Gophers band came on at halftime and just blew us away. Other than with bagpipes, we don't really have marching bands up here, so it was my first time seeing one live. My favourite part was the drum major. When that guy bent over backward, like the OSU guy did in that video, it was as if our hangovers magically disappeared. It was the loudest we were all afternoon. I don't remember a lot about that game, and Tom Brady played for the Wolverines back then, but I do remember the marching band.
