this morning. I don't have it yet.
I don't wear watches, never have. So, you want to know, why did I buy an Apple Watch? And the answer is: I don't know. I do have a reason, but it's a bad one. I'm out these days preparing for a backpacking trip next summer... so I'm walking with a pack and walking sticks. My daughters told me I had to have an Apple Watch because it can monitor my heart, check my progress, record my workouts, etc etc yada yada yada. They were relentless. They say I'll soon see the benefits. I'm dubious. First -
I'm aware of when I'm out walking... don't need a watch to tell me I'm walking. I'm aware my heart is beating because if it wasn't I'd be dead. And should I decide on any given day that I don't want to walk and would rather lounge around drinking beer I really don't want a watch shouting "LOSER" at me every 15 minutes.
So what else can the watch do for me, (I asked my daughters)... "Show you the time", they replied. I don't care what time it is. I'm retired. There is daytime and there is nighttime...and I don't need a watch to tell me that.
They quickly added, "You can send and receive texts".... to which I replied... one of the main reasons I'm out walking is so no-one can contact me.
Then they said this... "If you fall, get hurt, you can contact us". I replied, "what about my phone?"... they said, "your watch can automatically detect if you fall and then show no movement". I replied, "You're kidding me?".
So I bought an Apple Watch. I don't think my daughter's believe I'm going to survive a brief 5 mile daily walk. - JamesJM
