I guess I don't understand how today's fans "reflect today's weak society".
I don't think when professional football changed from a pure running game to open filed passing (ala L.A. Rams) that change meant we were becoming a weak society. What it meant was it became more entertaining and ripe for that new invention called television. New stadiums today reflect the changing ways we entertain ourselves. Just look at So Fi and compare it to older stadiums-all kinds of high tech stuff designed to get younger people in the stadiums-the ones who spend the money. Sooner or later fans will be able to call certain plays subject to veto by the HC.
Like you I'm beginning to see myself as one of those in the Progressive commercial "we can't help you from becoming your parents" I'm the guy with the paper tickets, running to the gate late, calling little kids "chief".
