in WWII.. she had lost all hope and was going to let the next bomb drop square on her and, low and behold, an oompah band came marching down the street and let her hide in the tuba and get out of harm's way.. it was a pure stroke of luck that saved her, and a pure stroke of musical genius that whoever was playing the tuba found my mom hiding in it to make the most ear-pleasing sounds, for which he was taken off the front lines and given a full ride scholarship.. So, I could never knowingly dog on the oompahs - its just too sentimental....
