Re: OK let me clarify....First sorry Mama - crowds, homeless, etc

Sounds like you just want a slower pace of life in a place that's financially affordable, safe, friendly but not bursting with people or traffic. You just want a place where you can just BE. I get it. Perfectly understandable. That's what I wanted, too and I feel like, for the most part, that's what RAMbeau and I have!! We just wanted to be good neighbors and to have people understand and accept that we want pretty much what they want... for our kids to get a good education, to raise our kids in peace, have a nice home, and take our place here as decent citizens in our community.

I live in a quiet subdivision of about 400 homes located in an unincorporated part of St Louis county. It's just outside the town of Fenton which is about 25 miles west of downtown St Louis. Fenton's population is only 4,200. However, there are about 70,000 people who live in the county surrounding Fenton. There's a hospital and pharmacy 1 mile from my house, a shopping center about 5 miles away, and all the necessary stores I need to frequent from time to time. The school system where I live is one that's very desirable in our area. I lucked out moving here 27 years ago when it wasn't much more than a hole in the wall. Now Fenton is a hot location in terms of people wanting to live here. The average home value right now is about $275,000. There's a new subdivision going up about a mile from my house where the houses start around $400k (that's a bit rich for my blood).

Now that we're older and retired, our lifestyle is very different from what it was 10-15 years ago. We're not on the go like we used to be but that's perfectly fine.
There is no perfect place (mostly cause there are no perfect people). But there are lots of places that will provide most of what you're looking for. I hope you have fun and some cool experiences along the way visiting and exploring. You'll find the right one.
