I've been to Dangriga..

First time I went to Belize, we stayed at a place called Manta Island.. the island is still there, but the resort closed years ago.. it was only us going to the island, so they figured it was cheaper to fly us to Dangriga and pick us up by boat there, than pick us up by boat in Belize City.. So, we flew to Dangriga..

..and what an interesting flight it was..! just us and the pilot in a 4 seater plane where we had to load our own luggage onto the plane.. Since I could see through the cockpit windows I could see the dirt runway ahead of us.. we landed on the dirt runway, then had to unload our own luggage off the plane, wheel it across the dirt runway to the terminal.. at the time, the terminal consisted of a porta- potty with the top half of the door cut away, with a guy inside.. we took pics cuz we figured nobody would believe us, but that was in the 35mm days, so would hafta dig those out and scan..

Anyways, LOVED Manta Island, which was 1.5 hour boat ride from Dangriga.. Here's a current pic.. Manta was the island closes to the bottom.. as you can barely see, there is about a 20 foot water way between the islands.. the other island was uninhabited then, but has a small resort on it now.. Manta was for sale, last I heard for $5 million.. I swam over to the other island and shot a cool pic of our little house on Manta that was all by itself on that side upper left hand side peninsula of the island..
