I've been looking at electric vehicles for a while and focused in on Tesla's a short time ago. There's a lot of material available online that made getting one seem like a good idea to me, but of course I needed a test drive to seal the deal.
So I drove 150 miles to the nearest showroom to try one out, by far the biggest hassle of the whole process. Once there, though, I got to drive both a Model Y High Performance and and a Model 3 Long Range. And that's all it took.
I ordered a Model Y Long Range the next day (in red
) and it should be in sometime around the middle of June. (Which means another ride to the showroom ...).
And while driving to and from the showroom is a pain there is a Tesla service station about 10 miles from my house. Hopefully I won't have to visit them much, but their proximity was a key factor in my decision to get a Tesla.
The Model Y Long Range has a range of 326 miles and I can't remember the last time I took a trip longer than that. I'll be fine for any driving I currently plan to do, but if I need to drive farther than that I can plug into a supercharger and grab a bite to eat every 4 or 5 hours. (Looks like I can recharge in about a half hour.)
Most of the time, though, I'll just recharge at home. In a couple weeks I'll have a charging station installed in my garage, and with that I'll be able to get a full charge in under 8 hours.
Here's a photo. It's actually bigger than it looks. (You can get a 3rd seat and make a 7 passenger vehicle out of it ... but it doesn't look like you can put a full sized adult way in the back.)
