not just soccer.... all sports. And while watching I saw something, in soccer, very odd and I really don't know the answer... hopefully someone who knows soccer can help me.

I can only explain what happened because it was in a clip compilation, so no explanation.

A player attempts a header that misses the open end of the goal and hits the side of the net, (not in doubt, easily seen by all, even the players AND officials), and the ball 'finds' a small hole in the net and goes thru it into the goal area, (whatever it's called).... AND...

The official recognizes it went thru a hole but ALLOWS the goal. Now maybe that's the correct call? Maybe not ever expecting anything like that to happen the rule book forced the official to allow the goal? I have no idea. - JamesJM
