I think over the years they have been the engine that has caused a declining interest in the sport. Talent has been forced to spread out. The sport, on a percentage basis, was much more popular when the big market teams were leaders in MLB. The last thing you want is to have a different champion every year. What draws fans is the ole good guys vs bad guys-just like the movies. That's our DNA. Yankees v Dodgers ( Rich vs Poor) that's where the draw is.

The beauty of going to see a Yankee vs Pittsburg game (then) was to 1) see the great Yankee players in action) 2) Hoping the Pirates could somehow the beat the Yankees. We are not far removed from the battle between the Greeks. Once we forget the history we are doomed.
