I think it has been close to giving way for quite some time.

I had noticed that when I flossed for the last year or maybe two, the floss often breaks when I hit around that crown. The two crowns I have....%^&*^$^^ GRRRRRRRR!! The price I paid for not brushing my teeth worth a damn when my permanent teeth came in. Both are my back lower teeth........Cavities before they were hardly in my mouth for a year.
