What is a realist time to get my A1C from 6.0 down to the norm, around 5.4??

I have never dealt with this. I know that I am capable of dropping weight rather easily (Pisses my Wife off to no end) 6/10 of a number SOUNDS like nothing but I have a feeling it won't be.
