Much like Camelot was to the Kennedys the affairs of the Crown are to the monarchy. Personally, I find it all fascinating with the one exception of the tabloid's 'attack on members of the royal family. When you consider our existence as a country has its roots in the British Empire, the trials and tribulations of the monarchy are irresistible-at least to me. The British Monarchy's origin goes back to early Medieval Scotland and Anglo Saxon England in the 10th Century !
The very fact that its existence has survived for centuries is due to its marriage to tradition and order even at the expense of injustice over the years to several royal family members. And of course there is the "Firm" a group of decision makers within the monarchy-chosen by the Queen- who decide on which children will inherit a title which of course led to the abdication of Prince Harry over Prince Charles' (leader of the firm) decision to disallow a bi-racial child to hold title. Long ago there was the abdication of the throne by King Edward V111 because he believed he could not carry out his role without the woman he loved-the notorious American divorcee Ms Wallis Simpson. Indeed, Meghan Markle's treatment by the Royal family simply follows the "footsteps" of Ms. Simpson. Princess Diane's death-a story all in of itself. Add in our country being founded by a few Puritans who simply were unable to adhere to King James 1 religious orthodoxy to the Church of England and you have -what I consider-great drama. Real life drama but in some ways a great but tragic fairy tale.
I understand it perfectly why people are fascinated with this stuff. Especially those who love history and its relation to succession.
