My hips are doing OK so far but I'm well on my way to a knee replacement or two. I know several people who ski after getting new knees so I've got my fingers crossed on that one. I'm actually a volleyball player and just get some skiing in when I can ... either way bad knees isn't a whole lot of fun.
You're recollection of Sunshine is spot on. At the base there's basically a rental shop and a ticket office. The rest of their 'village' is mid-mountain and it is still a long gondola ride to get there. You can ski all the way to the bottom, though, and fortunately we hit decent weather so we were able to do that.
Cool memories of those Olympics. Having been to the Olympics once (Atlanta, '96) I know what you mean.
Here's a trail map from Sunshine. As you recall, you load onto the gondola on the far left where it says 'Gondola Base' and offload at 'Sunshine Village'.
