We just finished an absolutely wonderful series on Netflix last night. It's about a girl orphaned at age 9 who becomes infatuated with chess played by a janitor at her orphanage. The series follows her through her years as a competitor during her teenage years and on to adulthood where her successes eventually lead her to play against the Russian world champion. It's also about alcoholism, prescription drug, and the misogyny faced my girls in a sport dominated by men both here and especially in Russia. Moreover, its also about chess and all the moves and strategies that should make any chess player marvel at .Even if one has no interest in the sport I'm betting you would love the series.
I highly recommend it. And I don't even play. Most female chess competitors who have seen the series say it portrays the game, its moves, and the personal issues very well.
