Here is the video of Patterson's left hook. Patterson was a gentleman and later I heard him say he thought he had killed Johannson. As you can see in the video Patterson goes to Johannson who is laying on the ground totally unconscious and tries to help him.





As far as football goes-it is far more violent that it ever was when I -as a kid-became a fan. That is undisputable. Players are physically stronger, bigger, faster, all of which is exacerbated by the use of steroids. All because of the money and glory that awaits them should they become a professional. You cannot argue it is NOT a vicious and violent sport. Nor can you argue that we encourage it. I do understand you thoughts give the background with you grand kids. Really I do. But it doesn't change my mind that the sport-at any level-but especially in high school, college, and the pros is predicated on violence- and we, as parents, love it. The research is all there if one "cares" to look at it. The sport is resulting in diseases that permanently destroy the lives of its players and causes premature deaths. All one needs to know is to look at the research at Scripps in LaJolla as to Junior Seau. There is simply no question any longer as to CST resulting from repeated impacts on the football field. What is shocking is that it is more pervasive than thought before -going all the way back into repeated impacts affecting the brain beginning in youth football.

I know of a USC tailback who once told me that in a sane world football would be illegal.
