and I think I've mentioned this. My oldest grandson when he finished his varsity year of HS football knew he was going on to college ball... so he wanted to stay in shape.... he chose the High School swim team, a spring sport.

I was proud of him but I warned him, "Mason, this isn't like football, this requires incredible endurance, different muscles, it will NOT be easy). He replied as a 17yr old will, "papa, I'm in great shape, I could swim across the Pacific if I wanted too".

So skipping ahead... his first dip into the pool was a meet, NO PRACTICE... and they entered him one of the longer distanced races... I forget how far.

Making this short... me, all the fans in attendance, thought he was going to drown. Cocky as hell he dove into the pool going all out... I think it was about 4 laps later, no more than that, maybe less, he came up threading water (barely) gasping for air.... got to the side of the pool and removed himself from the race. Lesson learned. - JamesJM
