I'm not sure I've got the term right... is it called 'middle school' now? I'm referring to Kindergarten thru 8th grade. Pre-High School.
More and more parents in 'my' area are choosing to pick ONE sport for their child/athlete and concentrate on that sport only... for approx. 10 months of year, (it varies, some are ALL year).
This despite what I'm hearing from pro athletes, educational leaders, etc., saying 'knock it off, play multi-sports'.
I have no expertise in this area... none whatsoever. My 'gut' agrees with the theory of playing multi-sports but admittedly that's just my 'gut'.
All my grandsons have been multi-sport athletes, at least 3 sports... mostly football, basketball, baseball... but also a little swimming, track, tennis and more. Funny thing about all of them... if I asked them during football what their favorite sport was they would reply 'football'.... ask them during basketball season and their answer was 'basketball'.. same with baseball. This until High School, that is, at which time the had chosen a true favorite.
That does not, however, say much about IF they had played ONE sport and one sport only during middle school would they have been 'better' at that sport?
So anyway, interesting topic, I think... any thoughts? - JamesJM
