My words, I HOPE, do not offend. Just thoughts from the top of my head. I just hate seeing what is going on. It's a complex issue that will take a lot of cool heads to overcome. Again, I hope I did not cross a line.
Not at all.
Unfortunately, we (Americans living today) are left to deal with the country's original sin. The hard work to resolve these issues should have taken place generations ago. The fact that they haven't hasn't made those problems go away. They smolder...then erupt...smolder...erupt.
Rather than face these issues head on, I see many folks attempting to avoid this work (which is, admittedly, messy). It's much easier to stay angry. Being both Black and a police officer, my Black friends hate it when I suggest that ligating the merits of a traffic stop
while the police officer has his gun pointed at you likely won't end well for anyone - most of all the Black motorist. And it's difficult to talk to my White friends (several of whom are police officers) because they have no concept of the police historically being used as a tool to continually subjugate Black people (whether it be from lynchings, enforcement of "sundown" laws or blocking kids from integrating schools). They somehow feel as though they're being blamed from the situation as opposed to merely benefitting from it.
No, there's no offense taken by me for discussing these issues.
The real offense is not discussing them - there will never be a convenient time to do so.
