That's your call, but I really don't feel as if playing the National Anthem and presenting the American flag is a political gesture - only if you are appalled by those type gestures..
Well, that's YOUR call. I don't think that anyone has to be "appalled" to point out a political statement. Again, the issue was in the context of "entertainment." It's acknowledged that sports is entertainment just like going to the movies and/or a concert. But the display of patriotism (your belief) just so happens to primarily occur in major sporting events? Why do you suppose that is?

My problem with it is that the games are presenting patriotic gestures and some players are choosing to turn those patriotic gestures into political statements.. In my opinion, well, that sucks..
So, just to make sure I understand your position...
If a player were to place a "BLM" sticker on the back of their helmet (signifying Black Lives Matter) and claim it to be a "humans rights issue" involving people of color and police misconduct, you'd be fine with that, right? I mean...no political party outwardly disagrees with the concept of equal protection under the law, right? You wouldn't attempt to turn a "gesture" of a human rights issue in a political statement, right?
ETA: It appears as though I like to say "right" alot!
