Some of you may know him, certainly 21Dog knows him well. Boyd was the basketball coach for Fresno State for many years. Arguably Fresno State's greatest coach, all sports. Brought Fresno some national attention... won the NIT in 1983.
My son was 12 at the time Fresno won the NIT. I think it possible that was Fresno's greatest sports moment? My son and I went to Fresno when the team arrived back in Fresno from NY and having won the NIT... it looked like the entire town turned out for the parade from the airport to the campus where a huge rally was held. Firetruck escort, and police, sirens blowing and lights flashing.
He won 72% of his games. I remember them defeating Houston then led by Akeem Olajuwon.... for us Fresno St. fans it was like we had won the SB, the WS, and the World Cup combined.
