and zn pretty posted posted what I was gonna post.. Angle of the bullet that killed MvR came from below, so most likely ground fire got him.. Almost hard to believe, but they flew so much slower and with less altitude back then that it was possible.. My Mom always told me my grandfather had spent time with MvR - I really wished I could have asked him about that..
