Making some headway... but yikes...

August 10, 2020 08:48AM
I've got all the band members excited about this except the one, I mentioned, he's not interested. But the rest of us are exploring it... and yikes, it's involved.

My grandson put me onto OBS which is a live-streaming application. It's free, but powerful... even allows for multi-cam work and scenes... so in other words we can run a 'stinger' when we go live... something saying "Standby For Panoche Creek Band Live as we try to sober up Rick".... then switch to the live scene once we begin. Then as we play use multi-cams with my grandson switching between wide angle and close ups of each of us in the band.

I've got a USB Mixer that we're going to try to set up as our audio source. We'll run our regular live performance gear into the one USB Mixer. I think Apple computers come with everything we need to get this to work but like the video it's going to require a lot of testing.

We'll setup a Facebook Group for testing, inviting no one at this time. After we're good to go with all the 'tech' we'll start sending invites and a date for the performance. Again.. this won't be 'open'... we only want friends to have access, which is why we're probably going to use Facebook. It's going to be a low key performance, meant for fun more than anything else. We'll probably have a keg on hand for the band and tech crew, (the only ones that will actually be together). Well, and some Jack Daniels for our bass player. laughing smiley

We're thinking of using our rhythm guitar player's river ranch as the venue. There's a eucalyptus grove there right on the river. Full power so no reliance on generators. Also a good place to fall down after finishing off the Keg and sleep it off. laughing smiley

What I love about all this is that even if we don't pull it off... and we never go live-stream... working on the tech to make it work is FUN... I won't regret it. laughing smiley
