Though she always credited my wit to my Grandfather, I recall her telling me the night before I went to Boot Camp, around 11PM on 2 Feb 1986. I had to wake in just 4 hours to go to the MEPS station. I was excited but nervous. I was a VERY shy / quiet guy. Mom battled depression BIG TIME and used humor to get by (Like SO many great Comics have) Anyway, she told me JUST before I went to bed these simple words........ "When you get stressed or nervous, just think funny thoughts." The next night in San Antonio, 5 minutes after the Drill Instructors let loose, I thought of Psycho / Francis from "Stripes". Her advice WORKED! 34 years later, here I am. I joke all the time and about everything. ESPECIALLY myself.
