My only problem with reading a novel first and then watching a theater or tv version is that I always find something that didn't fit what happened in the book. I loved Bosch but there were a couple of scenes where I thought "it didn't happen that way in the book". OTOH if I see a film and then read the book I have a character in my mind as I'm reading . I've mentioned Renee Ballard who is a detective in more than one of the Bosch books. She is based on a real life homicide detective out of the Hollywood division who consulted with Connelly both for his Bosch books but also the tv series. Her name is Mitzi Roberts and below is more info with an interview with her. In the book Renee Ballard is an elite homicide detective who surfs with her dog and lives on the beach in a tent. I'm doubtful Roberts does that. So far I haven't seen Ballard in any episodes of Bosch. Hopefully in the 7th series she appears. We shall see.

I think you will find the i/v with Roberts interesting. It's brief but you can get a good idea on how and why Renee Ballard pursues her cases and how tough she is.
