I routinely surprised by the people who, on this, are very shallow in their thinking.
As is known one country tried the segregate the vulnerable approach. Sweden. (Though in the USA the vulnerable includes black men and women, not just the elderly).
It did not work. The vulnerable were NOT protected. Sweden has one of the highest per capita death rates in the world and the elderly were particularly afflicted.
I said that in a different post. The response? It's completely voluntary--whoever does not want the virus needs only to isolate themselves.
Uh.
People in nursing homes cannot isolate themselves.
They need medical assistance, caregivers, RNs and CNAs, janitorial staff, cooking staff, people delivering pharmaceuticals to the facility....
All you need is one of those individuals being in contact with one infected person, it gets into the nursing home, and the most vulnerable population is wiped
out.
