And the major sources of medical info for the public---medical specialists who know the research and can parse it in their sleep (eg. the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, etc) uphold the claim that if a large percentage of the public wears even simple cloth masks it reduces transmissions (though it can't just be masks alone.)

That's the consensus right now. Which is ascertained easily enough--do a date restricted search (for example one week back) and see what is being said.

And do me a favor. Several people are posting sources. Comment on all of them. Don't be so selective. If you are selective it makes it look like you actually favor one view (regardless of the evidence).

Moreover there are now many studies, of many kinds. Not just lab studies or computer modeling. For example people have been studying whether a population wearing masks reduces the numbers of infected or sick people in a population. Right now that I have seen there is no one saying it doesn't.
