around the tree about 3 months ago when I started the quest to grow the lawn.. I wanted to minimize as much area as possible, so put two rows of those, um "rocks cut so that they'll for a circle" around the tree.. but the roots were pretty bad in some areas, so I took a sawzall and just cut the tops of the roots off to try and make 'em more flush with the ground.. Luckily I didn't kill any part of the tree.. but I need to do it again as now the rocks have gotten un-level in areas where there are tree roots.. so, need to try and level that out.. again..
