The entire album is a collection of the best musicians in the world.
I don't have a 'favorite' drummer... although I often name Dave Garabaldi because I loved his style so much... Vinnie, however, is far, FAR more accomplished than Dave.
In threads we've had in the past I have mentioned being 'tight'... well, musically it just means being dead on the beat. As you know... you can play a little ahead or behind the beat INTENTIONALLY to give the song some character... (drums AND guitars... or any other musical instrument).... but playing 'tight' throughout a song is HARD... few drummers can do it, and certainly not me. Vinnie does it on every song on that album.
The entire album, (Ten Summoners Tales), to me... and I believe to Stings and the others.... was not meant to 'wow'... or show phenomenal talent but rather... to make 'music'. It is NOT, however, for everyone.
It sold well, VERY well... but among people I know personally I know only a handful who liked it... and even with them they didn't love every song on the album the way I did.
This video is off of that album... notice the time signature changes... as you know Led Zepplin did this a lot as well... different genre, of course, but this unusual.
