When we get extreme weather like that , we know it's coming a few days in advance , so you just prepare for it , make some chili , rent a couple movies , cuddle up on the sofa ..............lol

any outdoor activities come to a halt

cars , keep them in the garage at night , or take your chances in the mourning , alot of vehicles in this area coming with block heaters , so it helps to plug them in at night

Summer , yep , they get pretty hot here are well , we get to experience all four seasons.....lol

pets , yea , you gotta be careful , or even livestock , defiantly need to get them out of the wind on nights like this

do I want to leave , well , there have been more times then I can count , where I'm out blowing four feet of snow out of our driveway at 5:00 AM , in -40 below temps , when I say to myself , WTF am I doing in Iowa
