My son used to live in Florence, Oregon... about the middle of the state and on the coast. I've driven the entire Ca., Or., and Wa. coastal routes many, many times. Beautiful.
But this time I was inland. And it's also beautiful.
Here's some ammo for you to call my a hypocrite, and be absolutely RIGHT:
If i'm on the coast, anywhere, it's the best place on earth. If I'm traversing the mid-west plains it's the best place on earth. If I'm atop Donahue Pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains it's the best place on earth. If I'm in the deserts of Arizona it's the best place on earth. If I'm rafting the Colorado river at the bottom of the grand canyon it's the best place on earth. If I'm at the foot of a glacier in Alaska it's the best place on earth.
If I'm lying in my bed with my laptop on my lap, which is exactly what I'm doing, it's NOT the best place on earth, but it's close. - JamesJM
I have the same responses to different landscapes, all with their own impressive power.
But having grown up in the Manitoba then the midwest, I have a special fondness for rugged, picturesque coastal views.
