Can't quite put my finger on it but that 'world' fascinates me. My neighbor, "Pete DelTesta", owned a race horse, couple of them, for a few years.. as did another neighbor Ray Lawrence... from my tweens thru my 20's I volunteered for 'barn duty' for them at the Fresno Fair. The Jockey's go from fair to fair, including the bigger tracks like Santa Anita.. in those days Hollywood Park (the new Ram's stadium), and many others... so I got meet some of the biggest names in the business.

I never knew, and still don't, much about the business... but they are certainly to themselves, sharing little with the outside world. Guess that just makes them intriguingly mysterious for me.

The Jockey's themselves are incredibly 'to themselves'... but they are also very busy with little time to socialize so there's that. I would see and speak with them 'in passing'... on their way to a race, or get briefed. Between times they are usually asleep, or so it seemed to me.

Owners, of course, are big drinkers and socializers. Trainers the easiest to speak with. - JamesJM
