when they are all planning to return home, pretty sure it was the last episode, and Col. Potter says he's going to go out in a cornfield and bring a hot plate with him.. then he wasn't even going to pick the corn from the stalk but rather bend the stalk down and cook the corn right on the stalk. That sounded so incredibly good to me.
I have fresh corn here every year... always a farmer or two who grows a crop somewhat nearby. Same with Tomatoes, Broccoli, Almonds (on my land), Pistachios, Lettuce, Pomegranates, and just about every other food known to man. I don't get many fresh oranges because they're almost entirely east of Hwy 99 and I don't get over there that often and know very few farmers in that area... 21Dog probably feasts on oranges every year.
Point being... fresh out of the field is the best. Oh... by the way, many here probably don't know this: Food products are judged mostly on cosmetics.. NOT nutritional value OR flavor.. so when harvest comes the 'unappealing by LOOKS' are discarded... but we farmers, and locals, chow down.
Mis-Colored and Mis-Shaped bell peppers, onions, etc. that would NEVER be purchased by anyone buying in a grocery store are readily eaten by all here... and they are every bit as good, if not better, than the waxed and buffed and plastic-surgery fixed items in their grocery stores.
