I think my favorite meats are shellfish. Any of them... clams, mussels, scallops, crab, lobster. As far as 'fish' I'm very particular... like many people I'm not that fond of 'fishy' fish. <smile> So I choose fish that have the least 'fishy' smell... Salmon, Halibut, Tuna (yellowfin), Cod.
Lot of people who don't like 'fishy' fish like Tilapia.... and it's true that it's not very 'fishy'... but to me it's not anything, it has no flavor.
Fact is, Steve... my fondest food, and it's by a HUGE margin, is home made bread. I could survive on bread alone and do only some mild complaining. I love grains... and am known to have cereal for dinner often, very often.
We are kindrid spirits. I love seafood, to me it's an absolutely natural first choice. I love scallops and here they're local. Shrimp too but it's not really local here. One great thing about restaurants here (we are crazy with restaurants here) is that all the thai places (which are really good here) make all sorts of scallop dishes. In terms of fish, I grew up on smallmouth bass and walleye (canadian). I also don't like tilapia much...and I don't get its popularity. Here the really great fish are haddock (which has to be cooked exactly perfectly right and to the second) and hake. Hake is an under appreciated great white fish. I bake it using a simple spanish recipe (Merluza a la gallega). Chances are they don't have hake on the west coast. My wife has a salmon recipe she has gotten down to perfection.
