"Glide Ratio"... but at less than 3,000 feet I was surprised to learn than a runaway 7 miles distant was even an option. Especially with zero thrust. I don't mean by that that the 7 mile option was 'feasible'... it wasn't... both La Guardia and the other airport were considered... from less than 3,000 I would have 'guessed' that ones option were much what was directly below the place, (slight exaggeration).
After thinking about it I could see how a runway that distant might be at the extreme limits of possibility but the problem then becomes... once committed any failure means ground contact within city limits... you're going to hit a building.
To me it's a no brainer.. Sully did precisely what was called for, and then pulled off a touchdown on water that was Chuck Yeager worthy. I like how that was depicted via animation as well.. the landing attitude.... I only caught one mistake.... when Sully calls for flaps then they show the plane about to hit the water the flaps were not down. - JamesJM
