I'm not sure if I think he's a good actor or not. But I do like him.... and I've never watched one of his performances and thought, "That wasn't very good".

I really liked "30 Second Over Tokyo"... I think an excellent film throughout - to include 'sticking to the facts'. I had seen him in many movies before I saw "30 Seconds" so I had already come to that conclusion, (not sure he was a good actor), and as the movie unfolded I realized that every time I had seen him it always started the same for me... in the beginning I was thinking, "Why is this guy in the movie" but by the end I didn't question it at all. Did he win me over, as far as 'acting ability'... no, not really - in this sense, when he crosses my mind I don't consider him a great actor... BUT... he never failed to make me forget that quandary when I watched him. <smile> Yes, I'm a very disturbed human being.

One could make the case, *I* could make the case, that 'winning you over' is very essence of 'good acting'.

It may be, in part anyway, his 'looks'... which, to me anyway, goes against SOP for leading actors of that day and even today.

There is also this: The man 'won me over'.. meaning I accepted him in the role, didn't have 'he's not a good actor' thoughts interfering with his films, in EVERY SINGLE GENRE of movie he was in... and as I'm sure you now... the man covered the gamut of genre in film. THAT alone should convince me that he's truly a 'good actor'... but it hasn't. <smile> - JamesJM
