For my first two year's in college I was a Dramatic Arts major.... in 1969 one of my drama instructors, a couple friends, and I took a trip to Europe. 2 and a half months. My drama teacher's wife went along.
One day in Firenze the 'group' was going to yet another museum and I decided to stay behind that day... walk the streets of Firenze, explore... and do pretty much what you like to do... watching people. My drama teacher's wife had stayed behind as well... I met her over lunch and learned she had also been a drama teacher, retired. As we had our lunch she introduced me to a technique she used to use when she was teaching.
She would pick out a person for me, I'd choose one for her... then we would 'tell their story'... why they were out walking, what was on their mind, what their life had been like to bring them to this exact location at this exact time.
I was young, at the time... 18, so the whole idea seemed 'goofy' to me but I played along. Within minutes I was enthralled. It was fun. We kept that up for the rest of the afternoon, choosing people at random to 'tell their story'.
You would have liked her.
