Because each game in the playoffs-especially a championship series-is so important managers now play them like its the last game in the world series. That means each starting pitcher is on a short leash and it becomes a game of bull pen artists. If the game last night was in the middle of July and Hill was pitching as good as he was he likely would have remained in the game beyond the 6th.
