while growing up in Texas around 3rd grade. My best friend was a fan and so I kinda joined in. At the time, the Rams were always in the playoffs and
the Dodgers were dominant as the winningest team of the decade. For some reason I always hated the Cowboys. I began to follow the Lakers soon after.
I moved to south central California soon after. Watched the Rams, Dodgers and Lakers on TV and of course Vin on the radio which cemented it.
Moved to Northern California for college and kept following those three teams.
I don't think it is uncommon for fans to follow their local teams (baseball/football). For example, everyone here is a Giants/Niners fan. I did live in SF
where there are a lot of transplants and they follow their hometown teams, but still they tend to root same area team (e.g., Pirates/Steelers).
Texas. Your fellow classmates must have given you a hard time back then.
Yeah, it was third or fourth grade for me as well. Picked my teams and stayed loyal ever since. Well, except for college. I was crazy about Notre Dame sports as a kid. Wanted to grow up and play football
and basketball for them. But because I ended up going to the University of Maryland (and then Appalachian State), I switched loyalties to the Terps.
That pic of Ferragamo. Perfect QB form in the pocket. He had all the talent in the world, then injuries struck. A major shame. The Rams had a potential franchise guy there, who was just gonna get better. The Rams have been QB-snakebitten for a long time.
Interesting about the loyalties in NorCal, as you mention. Not many split tickets, etc. Those of us who are nomad sports fans don't have to worry about it, one way or another. It won't matter to me where the Rams go, I'll still root for them.
Hope all is well --
