You reminded me... when I was in High School, (before cars, telephones, cotton candy)... Track & Field was HUGE.. it was important. All High School's had 3 teams: "A", "B", and "C"... it went by size more than age or year in school but you could compete 'up' a level, not down.
We had a brilliant Track & Field coach, very dedicated... went on to coach at the Univ. of Reno and even coach an Olympic team, maybe a couple.
Anyway.. in those years Tranquillity, my High School, set a record, a national record. It will sound insignificant, and perhaps it was... but if one can understand how big Track & Field was in those days maybe this will make sense. We DID get a write up in the National News, and the school received some type of citation from the POTUS. We won the most consecutive 'duel meets' in all of history. A record that will stand for eternity because... welll, they don't do that anymore. Our Coach, Mr. Cook, wore that record like I wear Warner's jersey.
Well, not that good a story.. but it felt good telling it. - JamesJM
