apparently there is one make that is the King,... several models. Don't hold me to this but I think it's the DJI Phantom... he has the 3, the 4 is out now.
amazing machines and the tech is developing quickly. Terrible thing to have a band member have, during a gig, and when said member talks constantly and demands telling you, the audience, and everyone else every single detail about his drone.
BUT.. since he talked so much, I know a lot about them. You don't HAVE to have a smartphone but you should.
I had to laugh because when he was bragging about his drone, telling me it did 'everything'.... I mentioned the 'shot' I want for the upcoming Football Preview video and the first thing I mention his drone camera couldn't do it.
He has no zoom on his camera.
I expect to see several of them this football season... I saw a handful last season.
Drones are particularly attractive to me... because my favorite thing to 'do' in life is to view the earth from up high. Even maps, I love maps, LOVE them. I learned to pilot an airplane when I was 17 and the reason was that I wanted to see the world from above. I quit flying around 1996 or so but until that time I seldom flew to 'travel'.. rather, I'd rent a plane at pre-dawn, or just before sunset, and fly around simply to view the earth and the sunrise/sunset. In the thread below I mentioned "Yosemite".... from a plane I could fly out of Fresno and in minutes be at the Sierra canyon entry to Yosemite Valley... the view made me feel like I was in heaven.
All my sky-dives, every one of them... except the first, my 'reason' was to view the earth... not to experience free fall, which was good... but after the chute opened was my favorite part - floating down and viewing the earth. I used to open my chute earlier, exit at 11,000' or so and open at 9,500', to afford myself more time in 'flight'.
I'm pretty sure a drone is in my future. But I won't be annoying people seeking peace and quiet.
