My brother and I have talked about this before. I guess it gives you a whole another outlook on the whole animal/pet dynamic. On a farm you watch them being born, you feed them, care for them, watch them grow up... and then you eat them.
I mean I've loved ever pet I've ever had and have been sad when they died but growing up on a farm I think prevents me from taking that little extra step most people take with the human pet relationship.
Anyhow what made we bring it up is a friend of mine just paid a vet $179 to euthanize one of her chickens.
$179.... chicken..... If my dad was alive and I told him this he wouldn't believe me.
