Yes, I got drug to a Dwight Yoakum concert in town last night.. My wife loves him, so I went with her.. I only knew 2 songs he did - although he did several covers that I knew.. He brought NO production with him.. Meaning, he brought NO lights (used the auditorium's strip lights - joke) a not adequate PA for the venue, no effects, video - nothing.. as stripped down a show as I've ever ever seen..
..and you know what?
I thought he blew chunks.. My wife loves him and was extremely disappointed.. Oh well.. the opening band was some dude name Rob Leinis.. I've checked his videos and the vids don't do his drummer justice.. His Columbian drummer was the only redeeming thing about the entire night.. he was FAST AS HELL - but the vids they have out make him look pretty normal.. he was SO fast that when they said he was from Columbia, I figured he was loaded on cocaine..
Jimmy, I've never seen a drummer do what he did on one song.. It might be normal in country, but I've never seen it.. They're doing this fast song that has one of those triplet snare "train" beats and he played the entire song with a tambourine in his right hand in place of a stick.. The beats, the fills, the stinger - EVERYTHING by beating the tambourine on the skins and the cymbals.. and it was fast as lightning - using a tambourine in place of a stick.. Holy moly - that was impressive..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
