I worked from home the last 5 years of my 34 yr career at AT&T. When Frank had his leg amputated, his recovery from that was painful and long. It was his right leg and for a long time he couldn't drive, or walk. I needed to be home with him for a good year so I got special permission from my department to work from home. They were very understanding and let me do it. Not long after that the whole company instituted a work from home policy for certain jobs within the company where work-from-home employees made sense. I was so grateful that I never dreamed of abusing the privilege. During work hours, I rarely left my desk and I made sure I was never late to online meetings. I usually worked more than 8 hr in a day 'cause it was easy to forget what time it was. I saved a bunch of money from not having to pay for monthly parking, wear and tear on my car, dry cleaning, and eating out (breakfast and lunch in the company cafeteria). Working from home was a godsend for us.
